DENTAL CARE VOLUNTEERS & DONORS:
We had a clinic and volunteer program to provide dental care to becadas, families and members
of the community. Unfortunately, this program came to an end in March 2009, due to severe local clinic mismanagement. We are now providing
dental care to becadas and families through the following donors:
Mayling Giron: a recent dental school graduate is providing free
care for the becadas and care for the families for a token payment of $3 per filling, with Spirit providing the materials. This allows
us to provide the much needed dental care.
SMART PRACTICE HEALTHCARE Materials are very expensive, so a sincere thanks to Jim
Yolanda and Mickie who are wonderful friends of the Spirit goal to help the poor. Through their generosity, we are able to take down
a large part of the necessary materials needed.
IVOCLAR DENTAL – has twice donated a wonderful supply of amalgams and resins, first
for our volunteer dental clinics, and now for our volunteer dentist. Our girls have brilliant white smiles. Thank you so much Marsha
and Connie. Your delight to be able to help is certainly topped by the joy of the girls.
Crest gave toothbrushes and floss to the
program in 2009. The girls and villagers have benefited greatly from this donation.
We are fundraising to provide the remaining necessary
supplies and hope to be able to provide limited care to families as a reward for excellence. The families make huge sacrifices to
allow their daughter time to study.
3. Many thanks for the dental teams that went down and donated a week of their time providing
endless dental care to the scholarship girls, their families and the community. They came from the US, England, Australia, Kenya,
Singapore and India. They were heroes!
WE ARE BLESSED WITH AWESOME VOLUNTEERS AND DONORS
CLOTHING:
The scholarship girls often come with clothes we would not donate to Goodwill. Most have never been able to choose an article
of clothing, unless it comes from the $1 pile in the middle of the market floor.
SWATFAME: This fashion house is a delight for young
adults. In 2009, designer Kelly, donated two huge boxes of clothes. The eyes lit up upon seeing the rows of choices waiting for the
girls in our semi-annual meeting. However, choosing was serious business. Each girl left with her treasures, treasures I have seen
them wear many times. The clothes are obviously cared for.
In 2011, Fran, at Swatfame, again offered a box of clothes for the new
girls. They know a surprise is coming, but not what the surprise is. Brenda, a new girl wrote she was very emotional (excited) about
the surprise.
JEWEL- swimsuits: Jewel was a volunteer dentist who brought down many swimsuits. We visit a magical water park once
a year, but many girls did not have swimsuits or the money to buy a suit. We have now distributed the last of the swimsuits, but it
has made the trip possible for many girls.
